Kenya Space Agency and European Space Agency Strengthen Strategic Cooperation to Advance Space Innovation and Earth Observation

The Director General of the Kenya Space Agency (KSA), Maj. Gen. Hillary Kipkosgey, delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the European Space Agency (ESA) Innovation Summit on 22 June 2026 at ESA ESRIN in Frascati, Italy.

In his remarks, he emphasized KSA’s ongoing efforts to foster innovation and accelerate the growth of Kenya’s space ecosystem. A key highlight was the recent collaboration between KSA and ESA in launching the first Africa Business Innovation Lab (ABIL), established to support startups harnessing space technologies in Kenya.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Maj. Gen. Kipkosgey held a bilateral meeting with ESA Earth Observation Director Simonetta Cheli to explore new avenues of cooperation, building on ESA’s extensive expertise in Earth Observation.

The meeting was attended by Rune Floberghagen, Benjamin Koetz, and Alex Chunet from ESA, together with Charles Mwangi from KSA.

The Kenya Space Agency expressed its appreciation for ESA’s continued support in advancing Kenya’s space sector.
